The man in charge of the cutting the borough’s grass has asked for patience after delays caused by wet weather earlier this summer.
John Edwards, Harrow Council’s director for environmental services, says the council is prioritising the areas that look the worst after the deluge of rain from April to June but is behind on schedule because grass is too soft and wet.
The lawnmowers the council uses would get stuck on grass verges or in fields and cause damage to the ground if council workers attempted to cut them too early, he said.
Workers have been forced to change from cutting green spaces every five weeks, instead of every three, until areas dry out.
Mr Edwards added: “Unfortunately, the weather is out of our control, but I’d like to reassure everybody that this is something that the council is working hard to sort out, and our grassy areas will be clean and tidy once again as soon as possible.”
