Brent’s council leader has encouraged cyclists to be inspired by Team GB’s Olympic success and take part in a local riding scheme.

Councillor Muhammed Butt said people should people wanting to get in the saddle after watching Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins, who went to school in the borough, and his team win golds at London 2012 should take part in Sky Ride Local trips.

The next ride, which is free, guided, and aimed at beginners and cyclists out of the habit, is on August 26 with three more planned in September.

Cllr Butt said: “Watching the success of the Team GB cyclists in the Olympics, and Bradley Wiggins in the Tour de France, has been absolutely inspirational.

"Many people are thinking of taking up cycling at the moment and for anyone who is out of the habit or just beginning, Sky Rides are a perfect opportunity to get into the spirit of things – fun, easy and free.”
