Schools across the borough have been trawling through GCSE results, with the majority “delighted” by their students’ performance.
Staff at Nower Hill High School in George V Avenue, Pinner, were marking ten years of year-on-year improvement in results, with 42 per cent of all grades an A* or A.
In total, 92 per cent of pupils gained five or more A*-C grades, which headteacher Howard Freed said he was “delighted” with.
He added: “We are thrilled for our superb students who thoroughly deserve their great successes and achievements.
“I am, as always, so grateful to the staff at Nower Hill whose expertise, commitment and willingness to go the extra mile ensure that the school continues to go from strength to strength.”
At the independent Heathfield School for Girls in Beaulieu Drive, pupils achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, with more than half of students obtaining seven or more A* or A grades.
And all of the school’s pupils learning Mandarin scored an A* or A for the second year running.
Alice Wells, 16, who achieved seven A*s, an A and two Bs, said she was going on to take maths, further maths, physics and chemistry at A-level.
She said: “I can’t believe it. It feels amazing.”
Headteacher Anne Stevens said two pupils were awarded 11 GCSEs with an A* or A grade.
She added: “These results are a testament to the girls’ hard work and the teachers’ dedication. We wish the girls well as they enter the sixth form.”
Teenagers at Northwood School in Potter Street achieved the school’s best ever GCSE results, with 87 per cent of students gaining five or more A*-C grades.
It is the fourth year in a row that results at the school have improved, with principal Graeme Atkins expecting Northwood to be named among the top 100 performing schools in England by the Department for Education.
He said: “Our students benefit from the fact that we are a relatively small secondary school therefore we can devote the one-to-one attention that enables them to achieve as well as they do.
“We are ambitious for them and they in turn are highly motivated to succeed.”
Among the stand-out performers at the school were Year 11 pupils Aishwarya Nair, who gained five A*s and four As, and Firoza Firozdin, who gained three A*s, five As and two Bs.
