Friends of a volunteer who helped to bridge the gap between the public and police in Harrow will raise money for charities close to his heart with a choral performance.
The Harrow Apollo Male Choir will perform at Holy Trinity Church in Headstone Parade, Wealdstone, on September 15th in honour of Derek Inwood, who died aged 81 in May last year after a short illness.
Mr Inwood was vice chairman for the Harrow Police and Community Consultative Group and received an award for his work in the Borough Commander's annual commendation ceremony in 2010.
The choir will perform to raise money for the Scout Association and Help for Heroes, in recognition of Mr Inwood’s lifelong work with the scouts and his grandson, who returned from military service in Iraq 18 months ago.
His widow, Babs, told the Harrow Times : “I’m humbled and honoured that they’re going to do this.
“A friend of his is in the choir and so they decided to have a retiring collection at the end of the service for the charities.
“Derek was very involved in the scout movement and we have a grandson who is in the forces at the moment.”
The family asked for people to send donations to the two charities after Mr Inwood’s funeral last year.
The performance is free, with donations for the collection afterwards. It starts at 7.30pm on September 15.
