A Harrow army cadet won an award at a tough two-week training camp for almost 500 youngsters in a Welsh mountain range.
Travis Allopi, 18, of Rayners Lane, completed the Senior Cadet Instructors Course, allowing him to train other cadets, as 201 Harrow Royal Army Medical Corps spent the last fortnight in the Brecon Beacons.
The group tested their skills in obstacle courses, clay target shooting, kayaking, and first aid training amongst other activities.
Travis is studying at West Herts College in Watford and plans to pursue a career in the Royal Marines when he has finished his studies.
He said: “If anyone asked me about the course I’d say go for it. I enjoyed all of it and learned most about leadership and teaching skills.”
More than 1,000 cadets meet twice a week in the Middlesex and North West London Army Cadet Force, training in military skills and working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Commandant Colonel Mark Hudson said: “It’s been a really excellent two-week camp, with a varied programme of activities which fully engaged the interest of our cadets and staff. The camp is the culmination of a lot of hard work throughout the year.
“Looking after all of these young people is a challenging task and I am really very grateful to all my adult volunteers who give up their time so generously for our future citizens.”
