Schools in Harrow are being encouraged to get children to enter designs for a banner to be hung outside their building in a road safety initiative.

For the fourth year running, pupils between four and 11 can draw their own poster to try and get drivers to slow down outside their school, with winning designs being printed on full-size banners as part of Road Safety Week.

The project, run by the charity Brake and branded product provider Recognition Express, in Station Road, will hand a banner and 300 high-visibility drawstring bags to the winning school and a special award to the student who came up with the winning design.

Stuart Fisher, who has run Recognition Express for four years, said he supported the charity’s campaign to introduce 20mph speed limits around schools to improve safety.

He added: “We get more and more entries every year, which shows that this is clearly a subject close to the children’s hearts.

“Running this competition gives us the opportunity to raise awareness amongst children and hopefully help to keep them safe.”

Entries begin next week and run until October 19, so judges can decide on the winning designs in time for Road Safety Week, which starts on November 19.
