There was golden glory for Naomi Riches this morning as Paralympic GB's mixed coxed four triumphed at Eton Dorney.
Alongside Pamela Relph, James Roe, David Smith and cox Lily van den Broeckehelped reverse the form of the heats to beat the Germans and win in a time of 3 minutes 19.38 seconds.
The Germans had set a new world record in the heats of 3.15.91 but were unable to repeat that showing as they finished more than two seconds adrift of the gold medallists in 3.21.44.
"It's incredible, absolutely incredible," Riches told BBC Radio 5 Live after her success.
"It's a life choice you make; you choose to be an athlete at this level and it isn't just a day job. I'm so happy to know that all the blood, sweat and tears, all the joy and pain, has been worth it for the last few minutes on the water."
This is Riches' second Olympic medal after she won bronze in the same event in Beijing but the 29-year-old, who holds a degree in metalwork and jewellery design, already boasted an outstanding pedigree in the mixed court four LTAMix4+.
The former national disabled swimming champion is a five-time World Champion in the Legs, Trunks and Arms Adaptive mixed coxed four, her most recent triumph coming in Bled, Slovenia, last year.
