A street market designed to give a boost to North Harrow’s market opens permanently for the first time this morning.
More than 60 stalls will line Station Road and Pinner Road from today until Saturday evening for the market, which will return monthly in an attempt to encourage shoppers to visit the area.
Traders told the Harrow Times last month that the area lacked a focal point to attract people since the old Safeway supermarket was knocked down in 2005 and replaced by flats.
Today’s market is part of a raft of measures by Harrow Council to try and solve the problem, and will feature stalls selling food, jewellery, fashion, homeware, flowers, pastries and baby products, amongst other things.
A test event held in March, which was funded by the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund, was visited by thousands of people and councillors took the decision to install it permanently last month.
