Wealdstone manager Gordon Bartlett insists his side will not take anything for granted despite their superb start to the season in the Ryman Premier Division.

The Stones are third after losing just once back in August and if they win their games in hand would be top of the table. But the experienced boss insists they will not get carried away.

Bartlett, whose side will start as favourites against struggling Hendon this weekend, said: “We’ve had one defeat in a quarter of a season so if we can replicate that then we will be there or thereabouts.

“But we are not going to get carried away. Things can change very quickly in football.

“We will keep working hard and trying to improve the squad. Being around the top in November is not the time when it matters. Being there in May is when it counts.”

The Stones had a frustrating week of inactivity after their trip to Margate was postponed on Saturday. Their home game with Bury Town was also called off on Monday due to a waterlogged pitch.

Bartlett said: “We travelled all the way down to Margate so it was very frustrating.

“It didn’t come as a surprise that Monday was called off because of all the rain. It just means that we will have plenty of midweek fixtures over the coming months.”

Meanwhile, the Stones have allowed defender Tommy Brewer to join Carshalton Athletic.

In other news, Wealdstone Under-18 Ladies earned a 2-1 win at Wargrave in an entertaining game on Sunday.

The Stones made a good start and had already created a couple of half chances before Ria Bird ran through the Wargrave penalty area, but with just the goalkeeper to beat she hit her shot over the bar.

It wasn’t all one way though, and Wealdstone nearly put through their own net from a corner.

Just before half-time Sophie Clegg and Catherine Fahy combined well on the right, and the latter passed to Bird for a simple tap-in.

In the second half, Wargrave pushed hard for an equaliser. After 50 minutes one of their players burst through the centre, and with just Sydney Goodwin to beat skewed her shot wide.

Soon after Wargrave scored a deserved equaliser. The hosts should have taken the lead after a scramble in front of goal but keeper Goodwin saved superbly pushing the ball away for a corner.

Wargrave again nearly scored from the corner as they hit the post.

Wealdstone struck the winner 20 minutes before the end. Sarah Key received the ball just inside the Wargrave half and ran towards their goal. Just as it looked like she had ran it too far, Key shot at goal and the ball went in at the far post.

Right at the end, Wargrave burst down the right and a goalbound shot was caught well by Goodwin as they held on for a narrow victory.
