Wealdstone picked up an important 2-1 win against second from bottom Hendon.

The Stones are now third in the Ryman Premier, two points behind leaders Margate with two games in hand.

Captain Wes Parker missed out because of suspension which meant Watford loanee, Aaron Tumwa, started the match at the heart of the defence. The Stones were also delighted to welcome back top goalscorer Richard Jolly after a lay off with an injury.

Lee Chappell opened the scoring early in the second half after a nice passing move with Tom Pett allowed the full-back the chance to drill the ball past the helpless Hendon stopper.

The home team took control of the game and were able to dominate after the goal.

Chris O’Leary was unfortunate not to double the hosts’ lead after a ferocious volley crashed against the crossbar.

The Stones made it two late on though when substitute Nathan Webb rifled the ball into the corner of the net, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

The home side switched off and allowed Hendon to score a late consolation, but it was too late and Wealdstone grabbed all three points.

The next game for the Stones is away at Lowestoft Town this weekend.

Harrow Borough picked up a very valuable point away to league leaders Whitehawk in a 0-0 draw.

Manager Dave Anderson has bolstered his squad with two one-month loans – Frankie Merrifield and Emmanuel Akokhia from AFC Wimbledon – and both started against the Hawks.

The pair could not help Boro achieve a win, but the result must go down as a positive one.

Whitehawk thought they had taken the lead after the Boro keeper parried the ball to one of the home side’s strikers, but he was adjudged to have been offside and the goal was chalked off.

Boro now face two stern tests at home in the league when they take on East Thurrock and then the Metropolitan Police.

Harrow will hope that they can start winning games and gaining some much needed points to push them up the table.
