Harrow Borough boosted their hopes of avoiding the drop after a 3-1 home win over Bury Town on Tuesday night.

The Reds badly needed a result after their defeat to Met Police last week and they upset the odds to defeat play-off hopefuls Bury Town.

The visitors had only taken one point off Boro in their five previous meetings and the jinx continued as Dave Anderson’s side came out on top.

The hosts took the lead after 33 minutes when Garry Jones’ corner was headed home by Michael Peacock.

Despite their first-half dominance, Boro were pegged back two minutes after the restart. The ball was slipped through to John Sands and he fired past Ross Fitzsimons for the equaliser.

Boro responded immediately and were unlucky not to regain the lead when Simeon Akinola’s shot was parried by Marcus Garnham.

But the Reds grabbed their second goal after 55 minutes when Charles Ofusu-Hene’s cross was turned in from close range by Akinola.

The final goal came in the 80th minute when Shaun Lucien pulled the ball back for Saheed Sankoh to volley home and seal the three points.

The result means Boro are fourth bottom in the Ryman Premier League but only four points off the foot of the table.

Anderson’s side host mid-table Leiston in their next match this Saturday.
