Harrow Borough manager Dave Anderson described their shock 3-1 win over Ryman Premier Division leaders Whitehawk as their best performance of the season.

The Reds boosted their survival hopes with a superb victory over the title favourites before backing it up with a 1-0 win over Kingstonian on Tuesday night.

Anderson said: “It was our best performance of the season because we played against a team that are nine points clear at the top and we deservedly beat them.

“Our performances over the last five or six games have been good but they peaked for the Whitehawk match.

“It has to be our best performance of the season beating a team that will go on to win the league. We’ve taken four points off them this season.”

He added: “We did everything well. Our defending was good, we scored three goals and had half a dozen other chances to score.

“It was difficult to pick out one particular element – we did well because it was a strong all-round performance.”

Boro, who earned a 0-0 draw at Whitehawk in December, fell behind in the game when Michael Malcolm netted.

But Garry Jones’ penalty brought them level before Shaun Lucien’s free-kick and Ola Williams’ finish sealed a memorable win at Earlsmead.

It was a much tighter affair on Tuesday as the Reds rode their luck to defeat Kingstonian.

Jones again scored from the spot but the hosts were indebted to an excellent performance from goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons.

The manager admitted: “I thought we deserved to beat Whitehawk but we had a bit of luck against Kingstonian. Our keeper had to make three great saves in the first half but that’s what you need to happen sometimes.

“I have been saying for a while that our performances have been decent but we’ve not been getting the results. But all of a sudden we’ve won three of our last four league games.”

Their next match on Saturday sees a trip to bottom side Thurrock.

Anderson said: “They are six big points for us. But we now have a massive match at Thurrock at the weekend.

“They’re below us in the table but have games in hand and we won’t be taking them lightly. Now we go there confident, whereas if we hadn’t got the results there would probably be an edginess about us.

“We know what this league is all about. You can beat anyone as we’ve just proved, but you can also lose to any side which we’ve also shown.”
