Wealdstone boss Stuart Maynard has called for his players to show why they deserve a place at the club next season.
Stones are currently on a losing streak stretching back eight games, with Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Bromley the latest in that poor run of results.
However, Maynard saw improvement in his side from the team that were battered 5-0 by Dagenham & Redbridge at the weekend and said his players are showing that they want to be at the club next season.
“That’s football, isn’t it,” said Maynard in a club interview. “Football changes very quickly. I think lads when they go out there that they’ve got to show that they want to be here. I think they all tonight showed that they wanted to be here at the football club for a place for next season, and that’s, that’s all I can ask for.
“I thought we played really well for large periods of the game, we’re creating some really good chances, they’re nearly chances though, not clear chances.
“There was a huge difference from Saturday. After the game we said that if everyone’s prepared to put their bodies on the line and give everything that’s the results you can get.”
Maynard is looking forward to having fans back at the ground from next week and said he believes they could make the difference to some results.
“On Saturday, I would have liked the lads to experience our fans, how passionate they would have been, when we were coming off with that type of display,” he said. “And then flip it and tonight I think our fans probably would have got us over the line.”
