Wealdstone’s 12-match unbeaten run in the Ryman Premier ended with a 2-0 defeat at promotion chasers Tonbridge Angels.

The home side started brightly and threatened Jonathan North’s goal with efforts from Frannie Collin and Jake Beercroft.

North was increasingly busy and the goalkeeper had to be alert to parry Ade Olorunda’s effort to safety.

But Olorunda managed to break the deadlock after half an hour when the striker met a cross with a close-range finish.

The Stones created their best chance of the match shortly after the restart when Joe Benjamin’s cross was headed by Danny Spendlove but Lee Worgan made an excellent save.

Wealdstone began the second half with much more purpose and Kurtney Brooks almost grabbed an equaliser but his shot was deflected wide.

Spendlove should have scored midway through the half but his shot was saved by the home keeper.

Wealdstone paid the price for the miss when the hosts sealed the win ten minutes from time. Olorunda headed powerfully against the crossbar and substitute Carl Rook reacted quickest to tap the ball into the unguarded net.

The Stones are involved in a Middlesex Charity Cup semi-final this evening at North Greenford.
